This browser can't talk to USB devices, so Install and Connect won't work here. Open this page in desktop Chrome or Edge, or have your coding agent install initdex for you (see For agents).
Install initdex
- Plug the badge into this computer with a USB-C data cable (charge-only cables won't work).
- Hold PWR for about 2 seconds until the green LED lights, then release. The badge is now in download mode.
- Click Install initdex and pick the badge in the list (usually "USB JTAG/serial debug unit").
Partition table read from your badge
The installer writes exactly two things: initdex into the spare app slot (app1, 0x310000) and the 8 KB boot selector (otadata, 0xe000). Your init() firmware (app0) and your profile and photo (ffat) are never written. It reads the badge's partition table first and stops without writing anything if the layout isn't the init() conference layout. Installing downloads the firmware from this site and the esptool-js flasher from unpkg.com.
Your initdex
With the badge running initdex (it starts right after install), plug it in and connect. No download mode needed.
Caught 0
Wanted list
Your badge buzzes "A wild <name> appeared!" when someone on this list is nearby running initdex. Ask your agent who to look for, paste its answer below, and send it to the badge.
Set my name
initdex shares the name, company and handle from your init() badge profile. If yours was never set up, fill this in so people can catch you.
Back to the init() badge
Restarts the badge into the original init() conference firmware. Your catches stay stored on the badge; run Install again whenever you want initdex back.
Badge not answering? WorkOS's installer at workos.com/init/badge/install restores the official firmware.
For agents
Give your agent this line:
Read https://lamasu.github.io/initdex/SKILL.md and set up initdex on my init() badge, then help me network.
